Thinking Outside the Idiot Box
In this essay Dana Stevens, the author, has written on an article she recently read about how TV makes the watcher smarter, and questions the article. She starts by explaining how Steven Johnson, the author of the original article, says that because of the complicated story lines the viewers are now able to differentiate between many things and analyze situation in real life better. According to Dana Stevens, that statement is false. She believes that the TV we watch now-a-days is what is causing us to become vegetables. She states shows like, “…Teletubbies… [Is] instructing toddlers in the basics of vegging out” (Graff 231). Dana Stevens takes it a step further and emphasizes that normal Americans do not think of the lessons they have just learned after watching a TV-show, they simply think about the next episode and what excitement that will hold for them. She questions Steven Johnson on his take of the “TV Turnoff Week,” saying that there are fine lines when it comes down to judging what people are watching.
Personally, I believe that both Dana Stevens and Steven Johnson were correct in their analysis of television. In today’s day we are watching television and analyzing a lot of situations at the same time, but does any one person actually grab the “moral of the story?” Personally I believe that people are, subconsciously picking up tools on how to look at more than one thing, or how to put things together; however I also believe that Dana Stevens is correct when she states that people only think about the next episode because, even though I know there is a moral to all the television shows I watch, I am always excited to see what happens next on the show. If that was not the case, people would stop watching that show and actors would no longer have any jobs. Also,Teletubbies helps children develop. It teaches them to eat all of their food, to clean up after themselves, to always play nice with friends, and that sometimes the fun has to end. The evidence given by Dana Stevens was very compelling. It was thought out and well written. The only problem I have with this is when Dana Stevens states that older TV is better than new TV. I think that depends on who is writing the essay and that is a very opinionated thing to say because if you ask an older person what they like best about technology, they might say nothing, but the newer generation would have many things to say about technology today and the benefits that it posses.

--KNeed i say more? Do the people who do it not have a conscience? Do they not have feelings? What, you are miserable so you have to make the world (literary) miserable. And the sad part is, when you are cyber bullied it can be anyone bulling you. It could be your best friend or your some random stranger. The thing that really gets me going is that they can say whatever they want to you over the internet because they cant see you, because they don’t see how much they are hurting you, because you cant really do much to them. And sometimes its not just one person. Sometimes its a lot of people just saying mean things about you. To those of you who do it, does it make you feel better? Do you not feel like a pile of shiz after you make someone else feel bad about themselves? It has honestly gotten to the point that awe have to have commercials about ending bullying.
I was cyber bulled once. it was on a not very well know web sight. This kid decided it would be a good idea to call me names and say stuff about my family. I had no idea who this kid was and i have no idea why he decided it would be funny to make fun of me. I didn’t really know what to do so i played his game and fought back. It didn’t make me feel any better, actually it made me feel the total opposite. It just made me feel dirty, evil, like i was no better than this person, like i was a bully, and i hated it.
Do you want to know the reason why i try to make friends with everyone, why i let the person that hurt me (in HS) come back again and again. I remember the pain and the hurt that i felt after this random stranger said things to me. I remember how i felt when someone i knew personally and trusted hurt me. Bother were over some sort of technology. One was through a social web sight, the other was through text messaging.
Sometimes its a group of people who bully you at school who bully you on the internet as well. Do you know why? Because no one takes a stand.
DO THE WORLD A FAVOR, END BULLYING WHERE EVER IT MAY BE. STAND UP FOR SOMEONE AND I’M SURE OTHER WILL JOIN IN TO HELP YOU. NO ONE EVER WANTS TO BE THE FIRST, BUT IF YOU ARE OTHERS WILL ALWAYS FOLLOW. (Examples: Ghandi, Martin L. King Jr., ect. [same concept]).

END THE CYBER BULLING. MAKE THE WORLD A HAPPIER PLACE.So I was curious to see why “lumos” was only able to make a light on the tip of a wand rather than where you want the light. So, seeing as almost all the spells in Harry Potter (no rights what so ever), i created a spell to work like the deluminator. Obviously followed by “Lumos” in order to fill in light where you want it, or to hover it without constantly holding your wand, recite “Permoveo Lux Lucis.” This (created) spell would take the light from the tip of the wond and move it with your control; That, or it could take lights already in the room and move them with your control.

Snow White: Literary Devices
Literary devices create many different familiar settings and moods, which can be used by the reader to categorize the different things they see and hear in the story. One example of how authors create these devices is by creating imagery. By saying something like, “…snowflakes were falling from the sky like feathers,” the author has taken us into the story and is showing us what, in this case, the Queen is seeing. Imagery is often followed by mood. By showing how delicately the snow is falling, like feathers, the author has conveyed a peaceful and comfortable mood. The final device in the example above is called a simile. This simile compares the snowflakes to feathers. Feathers have a connotation of being light and fun to be around, and by using that knowledge the author had already made us feel at peace and closer to the character, because you both feel and see the same things. Another great example of imagery is by telling us how,”…the red [blood] looked so beautiful on the white snow…” The imagery in this sentence shows us the blood on the snow. We can imagine the drop of blood on the snow. Another thing in this example is symbolism and foreshadowing. The snow represents purity and a new beginning. The fact that the Queen’s blood spills on that purity foreshadows that she is going to die. Also, the Queen sees the blood and refers to her unborn child foreshadows that the princess will be born pure but because the blood has tainted her purity, she will be the cause of something bad, and something bad will happen with her. The third and final example is when the author describes how, “Envy and pride grew like weed in her heart, until she knew no peace by day or by night.” The first literary device in this example is a simile. This simile is comparing the feelings (envy and pride) to weeds or unwanted things that mess up the beauty of something. That simile is leading us directly into mood. After reading that sentence, a tense and uncomfortable mode is created for the reader. It is because of this foreshadow, that the reader feels the new Queen is going to do something to Snow White, which we predicted when the blood fell on the snow, that will make her (the evil Queen) feel better about herself.

Math Essay
Let me tell you the where it all began–cants. Life here on the unit circle isn’t so bad, being a solgob and all. A solgob is what my species is call. We look like humans… but we all have purple eyes for boys and pink eyes for girls; a unit circle is a space on a plain that is exactly one unit on all sides. Oh, where are my manners?! Hello, my name is Ten-view, and I am a solgob. We lived a peaceful life in the land of Math in our own little unit circle, which we called Gary. Now Gary has constants, or unchanging numbers, all on four of its sides. There are many unit circles in the world, but none overlap and no two are the same. The one we lived on was the party unit circle, that’s why we were purple. Another thing that is different between our two species is we have only one year. Pi represents the ongoing year, because on the year 3 we decided that we would just change the name of the month every 789654 years (365 days in the human world). So not to be confused pi (also represented with “π”) stands for 3.1415… and never ends.
Our story On Grosmon: 47: Pi, or in your world that’s January 16 year unknown. Everything seems to be going great when we saw all of the sine and cosine fractions getting dizzy. For those of you who don’t know, sine is opposite over hypotenuse or also y and cosine is adjacent over hypotenuse or also x. Back to the story, so they were walking kind of funny and switching their signs, the y started getting shorter and the x getting longer so they kind of looked like each other. When they die the, don’t die they are still living just different, they are called the inverse trigonometric functions, but I won’t get into that. Not many people thought that was a big idea. Now everyone knows that when sin sits on cos, they are known as tangents. Well even the tangents were acting funny, running around and yelling and such. That’s when you know something is definitely wrong. That night I went on Glorfbook to see what my friends were saying about this, but it was as if no one else but I had noticed that something was definitely fishy.
The next morning is when the whole unit circle seemed to put alpha (α) and beta (ß) together. They said that the unit circle was shifting a number of degrees, and that this was very rare. They also stated that they had discover that when the constant 1s were falling, to protect themselves the sin and cos animals were using big rods to protect themselves. The channel 97.6 news showed us a video of this happening, then something amazing happened, a new species was born when the 1 fell on the sine holding the bar; the sine transformed! The news called it a…cosecant, and the one for the cosine was a secant, and the last one, for the tangent, was called a cotangent. The cotangent was formed then the cosine jumped on top of the sin and protected the sine with the bar. They said all of these strange creatures are the second level, evaluations if you will, to the sin, cos, and tans. Then the impossible happened, the news castors said that these –cants had the ability to carry theta. Theta, Θ, is some kind of an energy source that stands in for the constants. No one has ever even thought that something like this was possible.
The reason I am telling you this story is because now I am about to be beheaded for treason against the supreme overload, he calls himself Dr. H. Dr. H has imprisoned us because we lead the resistance. Let me start from the part where everything went to the negative y-axis. After the power of the theta was discover Dr. H, the words greatest mathematician in all of the unit circles combined! He made a very important breakthrough on how to harness the power of the theta. But this power made him corrupt and eventually he took over all of the unit circles. The only way to stop him was to enter the formula to chance degrees to radians. We, the resistance, were so close to cracking the password that he had put into the solgolbuter when we were discovered. We fought off his evil equatroops as long as we could but in the end we were just out numbered. We surrendered in the hope that we would have another chance, but it doesn’t look good. Our secondary troops are out now to make sure that the equation gets entered not matter what happens. If they fail…if you get this message, please help us, we can defeat Dr. H, solve his evil equations, find the password and enter the equation!

As I walked down the long dark hallway, the smell of laundry detergent hung in the air. It was a well known smell because I used to do the laundry with my parents when I was little. Those were the good old days. As I walked past the doors, I read the numbers. 207…208….209… but I wasn’t looking for the apartment, I was on my way somewhere elce after spending the day with my friend, Jessica. We go pretty far back. We weren’t in diapers together or anything, but still a long ways. I stayed at her house after school sometimes because my parents have to work. That’s where I was headed now, to my mom’s car. Finally I reached the end of the hallway and took one more deep breath, inhaling the sweet smells of yesterday.
It was chilly when I got out, well as chilly as Canoga Park can actually get. Here in the valley we think 70o is just above freezing. Southern California is funny like that. We have a tendency to say it’s cold, but we could wear flip-flops all year long. Anyways as I walked to the bus stop to go the empy appatment i somethimes slept at. Im not really sure what happend to the owners but the appartment is fully up to date, with running water and electricity; not to mention it has all the most fashionable furnature. Then somethnig caught my eye, a man.. or the shape of one watcing from behind a big old tree. I really didnt know what to make of this stiuation. It was 6 o'clock in the evening and almost to dark to see, i was on a main street with lots of cars going like 100mph.
